What is the Justice Impacted Scholar Alliance?

Starting Fall 2022, the Justice Impacted Scholar Alliance outreached to stakeholders across campus and in the community community to develop a plan to better support students who have been impacted by the justice/legal system.

Who are justice impacted students?

Individuals who have been impacted by the juvenile/criminal justice system – through policing, courts, probation, parole, incarceration, and other correctional strategies – or who have loved ones or family members who have been impacted by the justice system.

Justice impacted students often face a host of challenges to enrolling and completing their education.

MSU Denver is an open-access University, meaning that nearly anyone can enroll. However, the Alliance wants to further develop MSU Denver’s supports and resources for justice impacted students from enrollment to graduation and beyond.

The Alliance is holding space for students, faculty and staff to engage in dialogue about the vision and goals of this work with the aim to create an Advisory Board to guide the development of the Alliance.

The Alliance needs student voice, wisdom, and knowledge to help inform our path forward, as well as faculty and staff to advocate and support.
